Foundation for Educational Leadership

The National Society Foundation for Educational Leadership (previously known as "CEFEL") was founded in 2017, providing Programmes, Networks, Research and Events to: ‘Develop inspirational leaders who are Called, Connected and Committed to deliver the Church of England Vision for Education.’ Since its inception it has delivered leadership development to thousands of leaders across the country through strategic partnerships with dioceses, school trusts, schools, FE colleges and universities. This has included becoming a lead provider of the government’s flagship NPQ programmes, graded ‘Outstanding’ in all categories in May 2024.

Our core vision for leadership is outlined in the 2020 publication – ‘Called, Connected, Committed: 24 leadership practices for education leaders’, which has been further developed in our most recent publication – ‘Our Hope for a Flourishing Schools System: Deeply Christian, Serving the Common Good’.

We would love to welcome you to join this growing national and international movement of flourishing leaders – there are lots of ways to get involved below.

NPQ

We are proud to be delivering the reformed National Professional Qualifications, which provide teachers and school leaders with high-quality professional development which enables them to learn, grow and flourish. Which NPQ might be right for you? How is our NPQ model different from others? How do you apply?

Apprenticeships for non-teaching staff

Our commitment in leadership development is to the flourishing of all adults, not just teachers. We have therefore partnered with a group of FE and HE apprenticeship providers to bring about a pilot programme of apprenticeships (between Level 3 and 6) for school trusts in our Flourishing Trusts Network.

Flourishing Leaders, Flourishing Schools

“Flourishing Leaders, Flourishing Schools” is the Foundation for Educational Leadership’s newsletter which is published six times per year.

Networks

The power of school leaders working together to support one another other has never been more important and so we have created a range of different Peer Support Networks to further build a movement of leaders committed to transformational change.

Vision into Practice

The National Society for Education has produced a number of key documents which share our Vision for Education and set out how this vision can be translated into practice for leaders at all levels in our Schools, Trusts and Dioceses.
